This Summer!
We all have experienced big changes this summer, from changes at work, to new schools to someone new in our family life.
Kate Jones is our nanny for the children. She is truly wonderful and the children adore her. She has enrolled them in summer library programs, taken them to swimming lessons, helped arrange playdates, Friday outings and baking activities. She has kept the children busy and entertained during these wonderful summer days.
I started working at a property and casualty insurance company this spring as their web designer and developer. I love it! Hopefully I’ll have the website published in a month or two for anyone who cares to take a peak. It’s not very often that people can share with their friends and family the product of their job. I understand that working as a website designer and developer allows me this unique ability – I hope it doesn’t make anyone jealous :) Everyone else maybe has more important, less public product of their work and efforts. For me though, that validation that I’m on the right track and can show someone what I’m talking about has been kind of important to me, so it’s not really surprising that I find this work so enjoyable.
Brian was promoted to Sr. VP of Annuity Product Management this spring. It is a very exciting time for him! He has been staying very busy with the new responsibilities of this position including a fair amount of travel - much more travel than I expected when he was a fry cook 15 years ago. Along with these travel commitments are a few excursions where spouses are invited. We are currently enjoying a couple of days on Kiawah Island in South Carolina at The Santuary Golf Resort. It’s amazing here! And although there is hurricane weather up and down the coast, we are sunny and warm on the ocean.
We traveled to Dallas in June to visit Granny, Great Gran, Aunt Jamie, Uncle Jon, Mason and family for James and Brittany’s wedding. The wedding was beautiful, complete with a sporty car for the bride and groom to drive into the sunset in with a ribbon waving send-off. The children still talk about their special red ribbons. The plane rides were thoroughly enjoyed by Austin, Bella and Logan (although for Brian and I the roller coaster maneuvers performed by our pilots were far from enjoyable). We all had a blast at the hotel pool, jumping on the beds and staying up late. Who wouldn’t?! It was a really fun family trip. Everyone is at a really fun age for road and plane trips and we are looking forward to more family excursions in 2009.
We have spent several weekends at the cabin, both working and relaxing. Brian stained the entire cabin and deck this year, and I painted the doors, changing the color from cabin green to cabin red. It looks beautiful! We also plan to plant some trees in the front yard this fall.
This fall, Austin starts first grade, Bella starts Kindergarten and Logan starts Preschool. All 3 will be in school! How did that happen???
Apparently, Logan is all set to have coffee time with Kate in the mornings after Austin and Bella leave for school. They’ve been practicing. He asks for his green (everything for him must be green) Crayola mug and she fills it with water for him while she drinks her tea. He will be soooo very spoiled :)
Here’s to one more month of summer fun!
